Q. How do I use the discussion board?
A. Well, let's start with a simple image.
click on the image to get a larger picture if you need to.
In the upper left corner of the image, you'll notice it tells you that you're on the discussion board, and then it states "All Categories". This is saying that you're looking at all the categories, instead of a specific category (such as "Club Suggestions", "SJ RE Market Trends & Data", "SJ Township Info", etc.).
Now, just below that is a "Search for Discussion" area, which is used to search through the discussions if you remember it "mentioned something about" whatever. So, if you want to look up threads about the election, simply type in "election", and click on "GO!".
If no threads were found with the text you specified, you'll get a message like this "No results were found with the criteria you specified. Try revising your search criteria." As an example, try entering "Egypt", and at the time of writing of this FAQ, you would get that message.
You do not have to worry about uppercase or lowercase letters. That means that a search done for "election" will have the same results as "Election".
To make it easier to see only recent discussions, there is a control on the far right hand side, labeled " Show all posts from All days ago". You'll notice an arrow pointing down right next to "All". If you click on this, you'll see that you can limit the number of threads that you see based on how old they are. Currently it allows you to choose 1, 5, 10, 20, 60, and "All". So if you only want to see a list of threads that are from 10 days ago, simply select "10" from the list. The web page will be redisplayed with the list of threads that are only up to 10 days old.
Q. How do I see the entire thread of an ongoing discussion?
A. There are 3 ways to do this:
- There is a "+" symbol right next to the each thread, if there are any responses. If you click on the "+", you will see the responses for that thread. This will give you a brief description of the responses
- If you click on the "+", you can put the mouse cursor overtop of the text, and you will see the text of the post or response.
- Click on the text of the thread itself to see the whole thread. Just like this example:
click on the image to get a larger picture if you need to.
Q. How do I get my password if I've lost it?
A. On the Member Login page, there is a link that says "Forgot your password? Click here to retrieve it".
If you click on the text "Click here", it will ask you a few questions and e-mail you the password.
Q. Why don't I receive an e-mail for any messages posted to the discussion board?
A. The reason for this is simple.
We chose not to forward an e-mail for every posting from each of the various possible discussion boards.
Everyone that wants to has to "opt-in" to receive e-mail for the desired discussion boards that they would like to listen to.
Q. Can I easily receive e-mail for all discussion boards?
A. Yes.
A tab has been added to the "My Account Profile" page (the link is on the left side of the web pages, and looks like this
It will display the list of all of the discussion board categories that are available. It will also display the categories which you will receive e-mail for by a check-mark being in the checkbox on the left hand side of the screen as can be seen in this image:
If you want to select/unselect all the categories, simply click on "Select/Unselect All categories", until you see that they are either all selected, or all unchecked as you desire.
Remember that if a category is checked, that means that you will receive an e-mail as appropriate when a new post/reply is made.
NOTE: If you need to see a larger image, simply click on the picture.
Make sure to click on "Update Profile", in order to save the settings!
